¿Por qué nuestro logo es una piña? El significado de esta fruta se remonta a la América colonial, donde se relacionaba a la piña con la amistad, bienvenida y hospitalidad.
De hecho, la piña representa exactamente: lo exótico, lo fresco y, sobre todo, es símbolo de bienvenida y hospitalidad desde tiempos coloniales. Cristóbal Colón descubrió esta fruta en su segundo viaje al Caribe. Allí, en la isla de Guadalupe pudo degustar por primera vez la piña, quedando impresionado por la dulzura y el frescor de su interior, que contrastaba directamente con la rudeza de su corteza.
Era habitual encontrar piñas en los centros de mesa de la América colonial. Las familias que celebraban algún tipo de eventos recurrían a este fruto para dar a entender a sus invitados que eran bienvenidos a sus casas.
La importancia de la piña quedó reflejada en la arquitectura colonial. Todavía se pueden encontrar motivos de piñas en muchas casas históricas y fincas del Sur de América. Normalmente aparecen en las entradas de las viviendas, vestíbulos, escaleras, chimeneas… en definitiva, lugares de paso donde era más frecuente que estuviesen los invitados. Pero también se pueden ver piñas talladas en muebles, adornos, ropa de cama… se trata de un símbolo muy arraigado que, tras la colonización, también se puede encontrar en Europa. De hecho, muchos establecimientos hoteleros conservan grabados de esta fruta en su fachada como símbolo de hospitalidad.
